Built with a modest budget on a long narrow lot, this structure essentially serves as a gatehouse to a new house on the site built several years prior.
Initially conceived as a concrete structure, budget concerns pushed the design to and expressive wood structure that houses a 2 car garage, exterior canoe storage, a dance studio, an office space and a potting shed. Straddling the property, the building had a strong need to be transparent or translucent to form the entry sequence to the house. Poly carbonate sheets are used to clad the garage which is covered in a butterfly shaped green roof structure with custom hot dipped galvanized green roof curbs that double as roof edging.
Other exterior materials include, a non proprietary green roof system, hot dipped galvanized metal stairs, metal wall panels, cement board cladding, and custom and cost effective insulated glass units.
