A joint venture between the Seattle Department of Parks & Recreation and Seattle Public Libraries the project transformed a 3.5 acre as a new civic center near the Northgate Shopping Center.
Bordering the Thornton Creek watershed, the project creates a pedestrian link between a more urban retail environment to a wooded residential community.
The massing of the separate library and community building components were composed on the site to define an entry plaza with a civic presence, while also accommodating a playground and an open park like setting for informal gathering.
The exposed structural steel framing, oversized "super brick" (nominal 8" x 16"), and hot dipped galvanized steel members and canopies form the primary expression of the buildings.
